Cleaning between treatment

Advice at every stage of your implant journey will be fully explained in the clinic. However, it is helpful to have something to refer to.

Treatment stages

There are stages during the implant journey where a titanium component is supporting the gum as it heals. This titanium healing abutment and the surrounding gum need cleaning in order to avoid any minor soft tissue infection developing.

The best way to do this is with a cotton bud and corsodyl.

Gently wiping the head of the titanium abutment on a daily basis will prevent any bugs from colonising this surface and thereby prevent unnecessary infections.

Healthy gum around implant components looks pale pink in colour and is firm. Unhealthy inflamed gum is red, sore and bleeds easily.

Maintaining healthy gum around the implant components between implant stages has a positive impact on the end result.
